The sixth season of the American animated television serial SpongeBob SquarePants, created by former marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg, aired on Nickelodeon from March 3, 2008, to July 5, 2010, and contained 26 episodes (48 segments), beginning with "Krabby Road". The serial chronicles the exploits and adventures of the title character and his various friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Lesser. The season was executive produced by series creator Hillenburg and supervising producer Paul Tibbitt, who likewise acted every bit the showrunner. In 2009, the show historic its 10th anniversary on telly. The documentary film titled Square Roots: The Story of SpongeBob SquarePants premiered on July 17, 2009, and marked the anniversary. The episode "Love Vikings" was nominated at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Special Class - Short-Format Animated Programs. Furthermore, Alan Smart was likewise nominated at the 36th Annie Awards for Management in an Animated Goggle box Production or Brusk-form for "Penny Foolish".
Several compilation DVDs that contained episodes from the season were released. The SpongeBob SquarePants: Flavour 6, Book one and 2 DVDs were released in Region 1 on Dec 8, 2009, and December 7, 2010, respectively, while the consummate set was released in Region 2 on November 29, 2010, and Region four on December 2, 2010. On November 13, 2012, The Consummate Sixth Season DVD was released in Region 1.

The flavour aired on Nickelodeon, which is owned past Viacom, and was produced by United Plankton Pictures and Nickelodeon Blitheness Studio. Nickelodeon as well broadcast a 50 ½-hour television marathon titled "The Ultimate SpongeBob SpongeBash Weekend". The flavour received mixed to positive reviews from media critics. In a DVD review, Paul Mavis of DVD Talk "highly recommended" the set, maxim "[The season has a shaky showtime], but the laughs definitely pick up on the second disc."[95] In item, Mavis praised the episode "The Splinter" as "one of the very best SpongeBob [episodes]," while "Slide Whistle Stooges", "Boating Buddies", and "The Sleep Party" were described by Mavis as "SpongeBob season's best offerings."[95] In a separate review for the "Book 2" DVD, Mavis merely "recommended" it.[96] He said that the episodes, including "Choir Boys", "Pet or Pests", "Overbooked", "Shell Shocked", "Komputer Overload", "Chum Bucket Supreme", and "Single Prison cell Ceremony" are "solid entries" and "all deliver steady laughs," but has doubts that "they're on a par with serial' best entries like 'The Splinter', 'Slide Whistle Stooges', 'Boating Buddies', and 'The Slumber Party'."[96]
In a DVD review for the individual episode DVD release Spongicus, Roy Hrab of DVD Verdict gave this season a negative review and said that "In my previous SpongeBob reviews I have commented that series has lost its edge. This offering does zilch to change my opinion. Just what the heck do I know? Clearly, the prove continues to maintain a large following and the franchise is a license to print money for Nickelodeon."[97] The DVD consists of eight episodes and praised the episodes "Not Normal" and "Gone" by describing them "the best episode on the disc" and "a decent episode", respectively.[97] Also from DVD Verdict, Gordon Sullivan, on the DVD release To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants, said that "[it is] a solid drove of SpongeBob SquarePants episodes."[98] He added that "My just serious problem with this set is that information technology's simply eight episodes long; a more consummate flavor-style release would be more efficient. On the technical front everything is fine, with the vivid, solid colors of Bikini Lesser shining through clearly and all the dialogue and effects articulate and detailed."[98] Sullivan gave the episodes "The Splinter", "Slide Whistle Stooges", and "The Krabby Kronicle" an 8/10 rating, while "Boating Buddies" received the lowest rating with 3/10.[98]

The start 24 segment episodes of the 6th season were released on DVD by Paramount Habitation Amusement in the United States and Canada on Dec viii, 2009.[95] The "Volume 1" DVD release features bonus cloth including animated shorts.[95] The remaining 23 segment episodes were also released nether the title "Volume ii" in the United States and Canada on Dec 7, 2010.[96] The DVD release also features bonus material including music videos, shorts and featurettes.[96] In Region ii and 4, the DVD release for the flavor was a complete set. On November 13, 2012, The Complete Sixth Season DVD was released in Region 1, two years later the season had completed broadcast on television.[113]
